through travel
We're all on a journey and I believe that traveling enriches our human experience in ways that are often unexpected but beautifully surprising.
SELF DISCOVERY
Hey, I'm Chantel
My first international experience was a study abroad trip to Italy when I was 20. It really opened my eyes to what exists outside of the United States and lit a spark inside me to want to see and do more. But at the time, it didn't seem like something I could make happen.
Throughout my life, I've struggled with mental health and went through many dark times that no one knows about. From the outside, it looked like I had it together, but internally I was battling. I didn't see a way through and fearing that I would be stuck living an unfulfilling life became too much.
So one day I decided that I was going to make it happen. I made a plan, followed it through and here I am.
I still don't have all the pieces figured out, but hey, I've made it this far. So I hope that by sharing my journey I'll not only have documentation for myself to reflect back on, but it'll inspire you to explore too.
"I believe that the more you explore the world, the more you discover about yourself."
There are a lot of travel blogs out there that will provide you with endless listicles, travel hacks, packing essentials, and on and on. I'll be honest with you, this blog isn't that. Will I share some of those things? Yes. Will I share travel deals with you? Yes. But the purpose of this blog, first and foremost, is to encourage you to discover who you are in this human experience. I don't promote travel for the sake of travel. Traveling is a means of self discovery. If you want to visit all the pretty beaches just to take pictures for social media, fine, but I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice. Traveling is an enriching experience if you allow it to be. That means embarking on journeys with an open mind and open heart and immersing yourself in what the culture, geography, and people of different places have to offer. Experiencing who you are in different contexts will reveal so much of yourself to yourself. In my opinion, that should be the goal.
Pictures are so much better when they have a story.

Dive into the areas of my life that I’m enriching: Mind, with books that expand my horizons; Body, through exercises that keep me grounded and food that nourishes; and Spirit, with meditation and journaling to center my soul.
Seeing the beauty that the world has to offer is an experience like no other. Before I started this part of my journey, the idea of traveling was about seeing new places, trying new things and having fun. Those things are still true but it goes deeper than that now. When I plan to go somewhere, I try to stay for at least a month if not longer. It gives me time to really sit in a place and not rush to try to do all the things. I want to feel what it's like to actually live in that place as opposed to just vacationing there. As I said before, traveling is about immersing yourself in the environment and being open to how different places shape you.
